The Girl From the Other Side

Shiva lives in an abandoned village on the Outside with a horned black creature she calls Teacher. The world is split by fear of a curse. Humans remain inside guarded lands, while Outsiders are believed to spread corruption through touch and slowly lose memory and self. Teacher cares for Shiva like a parent but never touches her, cooking, reading, and guarding the house while letting her believe that her aunt will return. Shiva waits with trust that hurts him because he knows she was left behind. Soldiers from the Inside search the outer woods, and other Outsiders circle the child, calling her a soul and treating her as something wanted by Mother beneath the lake. Teacher tries to keep the house calm, but every visitor proves that Shiva is not safe in either world.

The truth around Shiva’s birth, the curse, and the boundary between Inside and Outside keeps breaking the fragile life they built. When Shiva is taken toward the Inside, she sees that human fear can be as cruel as any monster in the forest. Teacher begins recovering pieces of his former self and learns that his care for her may be tied to a past he no longer remembers. The more he protects Shiva, the more the rules of the curse become uncertain. Touch can destroy, but distance also leaves her alone. The king’s soldiers, the church’s beliefs, the Outsiders’ hunger for souls, and Mother’s will all press toward the same child. Shiva and Teacher keep choosing each other despite a world that says they cannot belong together, and their bond becomes the only clear truth inside a story built from abandonment, fear, and forbidden contact.
