After a global catastrophe, the surface of the Earth becomes practically unfit for normal life. Humanity faces the collapse of the civilization it knew, a transformed environment and the emergence of creatures that pose a direct threat. The remaining people build an enormous flying platform called the Lighthouse, which becomes humanity's last refuge. The city drifts above the clouds, sustaining the existence of a small group of survivors. Inside the Lighthouse a strict system of governance operates, defining the duties of every resident. People are assigned to special categories, while birth rates and the use of resources are kept under constant control. Life aboard this last haven is shaped entirely by order, rules and the struggle to survive.
