The Drops of God

Shizuku Kanzaki works in beer sales and avoids the world of wine because it belongs to his father, Yutaka Kanzaki, a critic whose words could change the value of bottles across the market. When Yutaka dies, his will turns the inheritance into a contest. His enormous cellar will go to the person who can identify twelve wines called the Apostles and then the final bottle known as the Drops of God. Shizuku must compete against Issei Tomine, a trained wine expert and Yutaka’s adopted son in all but blood. Shizuku begins with almost no technical knowledge, but he has memories of smells, meals, places, and lessons his father left around him without explanation. Those memories become his way into wine. Each challenge asks for more than a label. It demands a vintage, a maker, and the feeling Yutaka attached to the bottle.

The contest sends Shizuku through restaurants, vineyards, cellars, and meetings with collectors who guard information as carefully as money. Miyabi Shinohara helps him learn tasting step by step, while Issei approaches each riddle with discipline and deep study. Their searches uncover family wounds, rivalries in the wine trade, and the reason Yutaka designed the will as a path rather than a simple test. Every Apostle carries a story about land, people, weather, and memory. Shizuku slowly turns from an outsider into someone able to read what his father tried to leave behind. Issei, who seemed certain at first, is forced to confront what winning would mean if the contest was also built to expose his own hunger for recognition. The search for the final wine becomes a search for the message hidden in Yutaka’s life’s work and for the answer to who can truly inherit it.
