The young woman quickly learns that the animal is able to communicate telepathically, and she decides to keep this unusual pet, using his capacity for reasoning in her work on new novels. Harumi's life turns into a string of comical and dangerous situations, since his owner has a hot temper, does not tolerate disobedience, and always keeps her favorite weapon close at hand: a pair of sharp scissors. Together they visit publishing houses, attend literary gatherings, and keep an eye on rivals who strive to outdo Natsuno's talent by any means necessary.

Harumi encounters the world of writers, where inspiration lives side by side with envy and genius can be inseparable from madness. In between their outings, Natsuno uses her pet as a listener for reading manuscripts aloud and testing plots, turning every conversation into an exchange of witty remarks. Gradually, an unusual kind of trust develops between them, even though from the outside their relationship looks more like constant bickering. The writer often drags Harumi into investigations involving other authors, stolen manuscripts, publishers' secrets, and fans who threaten the lives of famous writers.
