Dusk Beyond the End of the World: Think Morning, Count Two

Akira Himegami loses his parents in a car crash and is adopted by Professor Kazuya Omagi. He grows up with Towasa Omagi and the two drift from friendship into a quiet romance. Towasa becomes known for rapid advances in artificial intelligence and public resistance builds. During a conference an audience member pulls a gun. Akira rushes forward to shield Towasa and is shot. Doctors cannot treat the damage with ordinary care, so her team places him in cryogenic sleep while they search for a solution. He later wakes inside a cracked capsule in an empty building. The corridors are dusted over and emergency lights fail as he forces a door and steps into an unfamiliar skyline. Streets are broken and landmarks from his childhood are gone. He tries to piece together how long he slept and whether Towasa could still be alive. Memories of their date and their promise collide with the silence around him as he starts walking into the ruins and calls her name without an answer. The prologue closes on that search beginning.
