Black Torch

Jiro Azuma is a high school student descended from ninja and trained in shinobi arts by his grandfather. He also possesses a rare ability to speak with animals, which makes it impossible for him to ignore an injured black cat he finds in the forest. The cat calls himself Rago, but he is actually the Black Star of Doom, a legendary mononoke whose power is sought by other spirits. Jiro's decision to help him pulls both of them into a hidden conflict. Hostile mononoke close in to seize Rago, while the government's covert Bureau of Espionage monitors and eliminates supernatural threats. With every side pursuing the power inside the black cat, Jiro and Rago must decide whom they can trust and what they are prepared to risk as their partnership turns a chance rescue into a war between shinobi and spirits.
