The World Is Dancing

In 1374, twelve-year-old Oniyasha travels and performs with the Kanze troupe led by his father, Kan'ami. Acting and dance have shaped his entire life, yet he cannot understand why one movement is judged beautiful and another wrong, or why people dance at all. A chance encounter in a ruined shack changes that. Watching an ailing shirabyoshi dancer pour everything she has into one raw performance, Oniyasha finally sees the power he has been searching for. The discovery sends him deeper into the art of sarugaku as the influence of shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu reshapes the country around him. Through rivalry, failure, and encounters with people outside the stage, the boy begins creating a new language of performance that will one day make him known as Zeami, the founder of modern Noh theater.
