Heidi: Girl of the Alps

After the death of her parents, little Heidi is taken in by her stern and taciturn grandfather, who lives far away from people, high up in the Alps. For the first time, the girl finds herself in this picturesque place, which feels unfamiliar and cold to her, where everything seems strange and unwelcoming. The old man does not show his feelings, avoids conversation and makes it clear in every way that he has no need for company. But Heidi has a rare ability to see goodness even where others fail to notice it. Gradually she begins to change the world around her: her sincerity and kindness break down the wall of ice surrounding her grandfather's heart.

At first he lets her run about the mountains, then he shares his food with her, and over time he shares the most important thing of all: his care. Heidi befriends the young goatherd Peter, a boy who accompanies her to the pastures, and together they spend long hours in nature. Peter has a grandmother, a blind, kind woman with whom Heidi forms a deep bond. The world around her comes to life: green hills, clear skies, bells jingling on the goats' necks, the sparkle of mountain streams. But the happiness does not last long. Her relatives decide to send Heidi to Frankfurt, to the home of a wealthy family, where she is to become a companion to a sickly girl named Clara.
