In Japan, great importance has always been placed on developing advanced technology and bringing it into every area of society, and powerful corporations have devoted vast resources and time to this goal. One such company, the Amagi Corporation, pays special attention to genetic engineering. Thanks to the work of its researchers, genetically modified creatures called Players came into being. At first they had no personality or consciousness of their own and were easily controlled, so they were used in brutal underground fights.

Influential people earned enormous sums betting on their favorite fighters in these bloody matches. But one day the Players began to evolve: they gained intelligence, reason and self-awareness. Killing the guards and every spectator present at the fights, the creatures broke free. The head of the corporation that created them still hoped to bring the situation under control and was ready to take any measures. One of the scientists working for the company learned of his superior's plans and fled. Taking advantage of the chaos and confusion, the professor managed to escape the vast organization, taking with him one of the infants that had served as a test subject in the creation of the Players.
