Broken Blade

On the continent of Cruzon, people depend on quartz, a mineral they can control at will and use for everything from tools to weapons and war machines. Almost everyone is born with this ability, but Rygart Arrow is an exception: he is an 'un-sorcerer', unable to use quartz at all. As war brews between the Kingdom of Krisna and the nation of Athens, this very weakness becomes his greatest strength.

Rygart discovers that he can pilot an ancient golem built without magic and requiring none to operate. The golem becomes his loyal companion and his instrument in the fight against the invading army of Athens. The situation becomes especially painful when Rygart realizes that the leader of the opposing forces is his former friend Zess, renowned for his skill as a pilot. The two went through military academy together and were once inseparable, and now they must face each other in a deadly battle for the sake of their loved ones and their homelands. It is the story of an ordinary young man facing a difficult choice who turns his shortcomings into strengths.
