Kenji Tomosaka grew up in a cozy seaside town, and meeting the girl next door, Nanami Konoe, was a revelation for him. Nanami lived so close that their two houses practically merged into one, a symbol of their inseparable bond. Years passed almost unnoticed, and over that time they gathered countless memories that became a treasure trove of happiness.

They became inseparable friends, and their relationship drew smiles and joking remarks that they were just like husband and wife. Everyone around them seems to know that they are a couple, yet neither is determined to push things beyond being close friends. The habit of always being together keeps them from taking the next step.

The story unfolds partly through flashbacks that explain why the two are so close, and why whatever happens between them never pushes them apart, but only draws them closer. This summer feels special, full of hope and the expectation of something more than friendship, even as questions about the future hang over them and their path ahead seems uncertain.
