Overtake!

Kouya Madoka arrives at Fuji Speedway for a magazine job after a trauma has left him unable to photograph people. He meets Haruka Asahina, a quiet high school driver racing for Komaki Motors, a small family run Formula 4 team with limited money and equipment. Haruka wants to reach the podium so stronger teams will notice him, but every race exposes the gap between Komaki Motors and better funded rivals. A bad tire, a small setup mistake, or a lack of parts can decide the result before Haruka’s skill has a chance to show. Kouya becomes interested in the team after seeing how hard Haruka fights with so little, and he decides to help them find sponsors, even though he knows almost nothing about racing costs or team management.

Kouya’s involvement changes both sides. He follows practices, learns what the mechanics need, takes photos around the track, and tries to sell the story of Komaki Motors without turning Haruka into a simple underdog image. Haruka resists emotional displays and keeps measuring himself only by results, while his mechanic Kotarou and team owner Futoshi carry the pressure of keeping the car running. Rivals such as Satsuki Harunaga and Toshiki Tokumaru from the wealthy Belsorriso team show what Haruka must catch up to. As races continue, Kouya’s own blocked past returns through the lens, especially the reason he stopped photographing people. Haruka’s struggle on track gives him a way to face that fear, while Kouya’s support gives Haruka proof that someone sees more than his finishing position. Their path is built from failed starts, sponsorship attempts, repairs, weather, tire choices, and the decision to keep racing even when the podium stays just out of reach.
