Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre

In one place, walls and ceilings are slowly consumed by black mold: alive, stubborn and indestructible, like evil incarnate. A brother and sister find themselves in a town devoid of ordinary logic, where rows of gravestones stand in place of streets and the residents behave as though such neighbors are perfectly natural and need no explanation. An archaeologist who discovers an ancient child's burial unwittingly brings a curse into his own home, and from then on his family is haunted by a string of tragedies, as if paying the price for disturbed peace. In a coastal village, fishermen find human bodies inside the belly of a gigantic fish.

They are people who had long been considered lost forever. And a sculptor famous for creating headless figures is suddenly found dead and beheaded himself, as if he had fallen victim to his own art. Soichi, a teenager with a frighteningly warped view of the world, takes pleasure in chewing nails and tormenting those around him, turning strange rituals and sinister pranks into tools of psychological terror. Each of these stories stands on its own, yet all of them obey a single logic of horror.
