With You and the Rain

Fuji lives alone, writes novels, and prefers the calm of rainy weather to noisy crowds. One evening she finds a soaked cardboard box on the street and a strange little creature inside. It offers her an umbrella and a cue card that says, «Please take me home,» then uses handwritten notes to insist it is a dog. Fuji brings it home, names it You, and accepts that it communicates through signs and sketches instead of barks. Their days become walks, meals, and quiet work, with You acting far too clever for a normal pet and Fuji pretending not to notice. People around her question what You really is, but Fuji introduces it as a mixed breed dog every time, choosing routine and companionship over clean answers. Little by little, the odd pair builds a home that feels less lonely on every rainy day. You trails Fuji with an umbrella and a new sign for every situation, and caring for it slowly pushes Fuji to step outside more and keep going.
