Hikaru Gero is the heir to a family of poison masters, one of the major assassin clans that work in the shadows. He has spent his life training, killing targets, and handling jobs without learning how to speak to women or build an ordinary future. Marriage becomes unavoidable when his family decides that the bloodline must continue. If Hikaru refuses, the duty will fall on his younger sister, whose own life would be sacrificed to the clan’s demands. During a job, Hikaru is sent to eliminate Mei Kinosaki, a marriage swindler who survives by reading people, faking affection, and turning desire into money. Instead of killing Kinosaki, Hikaru asks for help finding a bride so his sister can stay free.

Kinosaki becomes his advisor and pushes him through a world that is more dangerous to him than combat. Dates, introductions, grooming, conversation, and reading another person’s feelings are treated like missions with rules he does not understand. Each attempt at finding a partner is interrupted by assassins, criminal families, debt collectors, and clients tied to Kinosaki’s past. Hikaru’s poison skills solve threats quickly, but they cannot solve embarrassment, rejection, or the problem of wanting a life outside the clan’s script. Kinosaki uses tricks and lies to keep them moving, yet the partnership slowly becomes less transactional. Hikaru learns to protect people without treating them as assignments, while Kinosaki sees that his clumsy honesty is harder to manipulate than expected. The search for marriage turns into a fight against the system that gave both of them roles they never fully chose.
