Hibiki Manabe is suddenly sent to the Kingdom of Habrastia after a flash of light separates him from his classroom and drops him alone into a monster filled plain. Through her, Hibiki learns that Appraisal can uncover danger, value, illness, and potential that others miss.

Hibiki’s path changes as more skills tied to knowledge, maps, healing, and contracts appear around him. His low magic power limits what he can do alone, but contracts allow him to borrow strength from people who agree to trust him. Emalia stays beside him as the group begins taking quests, meeting guild staff, and helping people whose problems cannot be solved only by swinging a weapon. Claude, a wounded beastman under a curse, and Lilian, a young girl burdened by dangerous magic, show Hibiki that his strongest ability is not combat. It is the power to understand what is wrong and find a way to correct it. Each encounter gives him another reason to master the job he was handed, while his larger goal remains finding a route back home without abandoning the people who now depend on him.
