Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk

Botan Kamiina moves into a student dorm in Chichibu as a first year university student and begins a life away from home. During a gathering with other dormmates, she notices that Ibuki Tonami, the dorm leader, has stepped away alone. Botan follows her and finds Ibuki drinking a highball in private. Botan has never drunk alcohol before, but curiosity makes her take her first sip. The drink changes the shape of the evening. Botan becomes more open, more direct, and more willing to speak than she usually is. Ibuki, who likes alcohol but avoids drinking around others because she is embarrassed by how she reacts, finds someone who does not treat her habit as strange. Their first shared drink becomes the start of a friendship built through small nights, local places, and conversations that are easier with a glass in hand.

The days that follow bring Botan into a wider circle of students. Kanade, Akane, Yaeka, and Chin-lan each bring their own routines, worries, and attachments into Botan’s new life. Different drinks become tied to different moments. Shochu, whisky, beer, fruit liquor, and local food give the group reasons to gather, walk through town, and talk about things they normally avoid. Botan learns what she likes, what she cannot handle, and how alcohol changes distance between people. Ibuki slowly stops hiding every time she wants to drink and begins to accept that the experience can be shared without losing control of herself. The story follows Botan as she settles into university life, learns the habits of her dormmates, and finds that the first drink was not the important part. What matters is the company that forms around it and the way each meeting makes the dorm feel less temporary.
