Yowayowa Sensei

Akihito Abikura starts a new school year and finds that his homeroom teacher is Hiyori Hiwamura, a young English teacher who has just begun working after university. The class quickly fears her because she speaks too softly, looks tense when nervous, and carries a notebook covered with sticky notes that students mistake for a curse book. They call her Kowakowa Sensei, thinking she is dangerous, but Akihito sees the truth when he catches her practicing lessons alone with stuffed animals. Hiyori is not threatening. She is shy, clumsy, low on stamina, and desperate to become a teacher her students can trust. Akihito offers help and becomes class representative so he can support her from inside the classroom.

Their days turn into small efforts to repair Hiyori’s image. Akihito helps with lesson practice, class management, and situations where her nerves make ordinary tasks difficult. Hiyori tries to speak louder, answer students directly, and survive school events without collapsing from embarrassment or exhaustion. Classmates such as Mizuki and others begin to see that the rumors were wrong, while Akihito’s protective older sister and students around them complicate the closeness between teacher and pupil. Hiyori’s move near Akihito’s apartment creates more chances for accidental meetings and misunderstandings, but also gives her a place to keep practicing. The story follows Hiyori as she slowly becomes less afraid of her class, and Akihito as he learns that helping her means giving her room to stand on her own, not simply rescuing her every time she falters.
