Knights of Sidonia: The Movie

After the invasion of the planet by a non-humanoid race called the Gauna, nearly all of humanity died out. The survivors fled the Earth aboard huge ships bearing the strange name Sidonia, saving their lives. Only occasionally did they stop to find and stockpile resources. In this way they traveled through space in search of a new home where no one could kill them. Even so, the non-humanoid race does not stop and wants to wipe out humanity completely. Scientists develop special weapons to fight the aliens, while the military dominates and teaches others how to use them.

Nagate Tanikaze is a young man who has spent his entire conscious life on the lower levels of one of the spaceships with his grandfather. After the death of the only person he loved, he has to leave his level. Hunger finally drives the young man out of his dungeon. But it turns out that his help is badly needed in the fight against the Gauna. The piloting skills he learned in a simulator will help him defeat the aliens and win back humanity's planet.
