The Fake

A tiny village, quiet and cozy, was soon at risk of earning the dubious status of an abandoned settlement. The cause was the arrival of a businessman who cared nothing for the consequences of his actions. Having decided to build a new wing of his factory near the village, he gave no thought to how his large-scale project would affect the surrounding land and its ecology. Construction of the factory meant sweeping changes to the environment. An old dam, which the government had long been promising to repair and reinforce, threatened to collapse. Yet the officials apparently had more important things to do than ensure the safety and well-being of the villagers.

The locals, who depend on nature and their land, grew anxious and began protesting against this troubling situation. But their voices could barely be heard against the might of the businessman and his political backing. The revered place of learning once again turned to the pages of its history, shrouded in mystery and murk. The villagers were left on the verge of losing their unique cultural heritage, in which their ancestors had written a heroic story of struggle, a heritage that still gave them warmth and comfort amid their fearsome banks and fresh rivers.
