Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation

Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation is an animated adaptation of Monsters, an early one-shot manga by Eiichiro Oda that predates One Piece. Its hero is Ryuma, the legendary samurai whose name and sword later became part of the One Piece world.

Ryuma is a wandering swordsman who prefers to keep out of trouble. His path leads him to a young waitress whose hometown was destroyed by a dragon, and although he does not go looking for a fight, trouble finds them anyway.

The story is a compact, self-contained adventure with a classic samurai feel: an easygoing traveler with an empty stomach and an extraordinary blade, a town living in fear, and a confrontation with a monstrous beast. It captures the humor, energy and sense of spectacle that would define Oda's later work, and gives fans a chance to see a figure who is only mentioned in legend in One Piece take center stage in his own tale.
