Fullmetal Alchemist

Edward and Alphonse Elric break a taboo to bring their mother back. The transmutation fails. Al loses his body and Ed gives an arm and a leg to bind Al’s soul to armor. Ed joins the military as a State Alchemist to search for a Philosopher’s Stone that might restore them. The brothers take missions, meet allies, and see how the army hides crimes behind medals. Nina Tucker becomes a chimera and dies after her father’s experiment. A serial killer named Scar targets alchemists while clues point to Lab Five and human lives used as material. Homunculi move in the shadows and call each other by sins. They are born from failed attempts to raise the dead and they obey a hidden master. The truth reaches back to an alchemist who survived for centuries by stealing bodies and by using stones made from war. Hughes is murdered while chasing the link between the brass and the stone. The brothers face the Gate that sits behind transmutation. The hunt ends with a sacrifice that returns what was taken from one and sends the other beyond the Gate. Each keeps a promise to live and to meet again.
