Howl's Moving Castle

Sophie lives a quiet life making hats until a chance encounter with the wizard Howl puts her in the sights of the Witch of the Waste, who curses her into an old body overnight. With nowhere to go and no one likely to believe her, Sophie walks out of town and ends up inside a moving castle that looks like a nightmare held together by magic and bad habits. She makes herself useful as the castle’s cleaner and gradually learns that Howl is powerful, charming, and terrified of responsibility in exactly the way a war-torn world cannot afford. A fire demon named Calcifer keeps the castle alive through a bargain that is not as simple as it sounds, and Sophie’s attempt to break her own curse drags her into Howl’s hidden past, the politics around royal sorcery, and a conflict that threatens to swallow everyone.
