In 2026 a new AR wearable, Augma, popularizes the game Ordinal Scale, which overlays battles onto Tokyo. Kirito joins Asuna and other SAO survivors when Aincrad bosses begin appearing at public events led by the AI idol Yuna. During fights, OS drones collect glowing orbs from downed survivors; afterward, some lose specific SAO memories. The game’s rank-2 player, Eiji, assaults rivals offstage using an exosuit. Tracing the phenomenon, Kirito reaches Professor Tetsuhiro Shigemura, Augma’s developer, whose daughter, Yuna, died in SAO; he is reconstructing her as an AI by stimulating and scanning survivors’ memories. Asuna is hit and forgets key parts of SAO, pushing Kirito to train for AR combat. With friends he uncovers Augma’s hidden FullDive mode and accesses Aincrad’s 100th-floor Ruby Palace, where the group defeats An Incarnation of the Radius. Yuna rejects the plan, blocks the mass scan, and the survivors’ memories are restored. Shigemura’s scheme collapses; Eiji surrenders.
