Sword Art Online: Alicization - Recollection

Sword Art Online: Alicization - Recollection is a recap special covering the first eighteen episodes of Sword Art Online: Alicization.

It revisits the story of how Kirito, after taking part in a secret experiment by the mysterious company Rath, wakes up in the Underworld, a strikingly realistic virtual world populated by artificial intelligences whose minds are as complex as human ones. With no memory of how he got there, he befriends Eugeo, a young woodcutter from the village of Rulid, and learns of Alice, Eugeo's childhood friend who was taken away years earlier by an Integrity Knight for breaking the Taboo Index.

The recap follows the pair as they leave their village, train in swordsmanship, enroll at the Swordcraft Academy and gradually uncover the rigid rules imposed by the Axiom Church, setting them on a path toward the Central Cathedral. At the same time, it touches on events in the real world surrounding Project Alicization. It is designed to refresh viewers' memories before the story continues.
