Violet Evergarden: Recollections

Violet Evergarden: Recollections is a recap film that retells the story of the TV series Violet Evergarden.

The war is over, and Violet, a girl who was raised as a weapon and knew nothing but fighting, has lost both arms in battle; they have been replaced with mechanical prosthetics. The last words spoken to her by Major Gilbert Bougainvillea, the officer who took her in and whom she followed unconditionally, were “I love you,” and she has no idea what they mean. Searching for that meaning, Violet begins working at the CH Postal Company, run by Gilbert's friend Claudia Hodgins, as an Auto Memory Doll, a ghostwriter who puts other people's feelings into letters.

Through her clients, each carrying words they cannot express on their own, Violet gradually begins to understand human emotions, as well as the weight of her own past. The film gathers the key moments of her journey into a single story, from her first awkward attempts at the job to the letters that changed the lives of those who received them.
