A Centaur's Life

Himeno Kimihara lives the life of an ordinary high school girl: she goes to class, spends time with her friends, takes part in school clubs and acts in plays. She does, however, have a tail and four hoofed legs, which in her world is perfectly normal. In this alternate world evolution took a different path: four-limbed animals turned out to be a dead end, and six-limbed dinosaurs evolved into six-limbed mammals that eventually gave rise to humans. The extra limbs led to a great diversity of forms – some people got legs, others wings, horns, cat ears or fins. Angels, dragonfolk, centaurs, satyrs, fauns, cat-eared folk, merfolk and even mysterious reptilian people from Antarctica all live side by side.

The anime focuses on the everyday life of Himeno and her best friends, Nozomi and Kyouko, showing their adventures and relationships. At the same time, viewers get to know this remarkable world, which at first glance seems ideal. Yet the deeper one looks, the clearer it becomes that its outward harmony hides its own complexities and problems. The series not only entertains but also invites reflection on diversity and on how different kinds of beings coexist in a single society.
