Teasing Master Takagi-san: The Movie

Takagi and Nishikata's final summer of middle school is about to begin. Nishikata is still plotting his revenge, trying to catch Takagi off guard and prove to himself that he can be one step ahead of her at least once. But beside her he invariably loses his confidence: Takagi sees right through him, guessing his pauses, fears and kind impulses before he is even aware of them. Her teasing no longer looks like mere mischief – it hides a wish to be close, to stretch out a conversation, to hold on to the moments when they can still walk home the same way and argue about trifles.

This summer begins with a small encounter at a shrine: Takagi and Nishikata find an abandoned kitten and name her Hana. Caring for her turns their usual verbal duels into something more fragile and serious; they have to be responsible, protect someone weaker and admit their attachment without hiding behind bravado. Meanwhile, Mina, Yukari and Sanae try to fill the vacation with a list of happy things to do, as if they could protect their friendship from future changes, and Hamaguchi hopes to spend more time with Houjou before summer parts them. Even the festivals and the legend of wish-granting fireflies serve as reminders that childhood ends quietly.
