Kusunoki no Bannin

Reito Naoi is fired unfairly, snaps in revenge, and lands in jail with his future closing in. A lawyer offers him a deal: freedom, if he fulfills one request from an unknown client. The client is Chifune Yanagisawa, a distant aunt he has never met, and her order is oddly specific. Reito must become the custodian of a camphor tree at a shrine, a tree surrounded by rumor that it grants wishes to those who come to pray. Reito is given rules, responsibilities, and a steady stream of visitors who arrive with secrets they cannot say out loud anywhere else. Forced to listen, to guard, and to stay, he starts to see how other people’s regrets and hopes shape the place, and he must decide what kind of life he wants when he is no longer running on anger.
