Tsukushi Makino comes from a family of modest means, but thanks to her good grades she gets into the prestigious Eitoku Academy, a school attended by the children of Japan's wealthiest families. She just wants to quietly get through her last two years and stay out of the lives of her influential classmates. In reality, however, the academy is run by a group of four young men known as the F4: Tsukasa Domyouji, Rui Hanazawa, Sojiro Nishikado and Akira Mimasaka. Each of them comes from a rich family and wields enormous influence over the other students.

When Tsukushi stands up for a friend and clashes with Tsukasa, she receives the red card, the F4's way of declaring war, and becomes the target of school-wide bullying. But Tsukushi refuses to be beaten and fights back with all her stubbornness. At the same time, she finds herself drawn to the quiet and mysterious Rui, the one member of the F4 who seems different from the others, and she gradually begins to see that there is much more to these privileged boys than meets the eye.
