GeGeGe no Kitaro

Nearly twenty years into the 21st century, people have forgotten the existence of youkai. When a series of unexplainable phenomena plagues the human world and throws adults into confusion and chaos, thirteen-year-old Mana Inuyama writes a letter to the Youkai Post in search of answers, only to be greeted by Gegege no Kitaro himself.

This 2018 series is the sixth television adaptation of Shigeru Mizuki's classic manga, released for the 50th anniversary of the anime franchise. Kitaro is a one-eyed boy and the last surviving member of the Ghost Tribe, who stands between the human and youkai worlds. He is accompanied by his father Medama-oyaji, who survives as a talking eyeball, and by a colorful band of youkai allies, including the cunning, money-loving Nezumi-otoko, the hot-tempered Neko-musume, Sunakake-babaa, Konaki-jijii, Ittan-momen and Nurikabe. Together with Mana, they confront mischievous and malevolent youkai who prey on a modern society that no longer believes in them, in stories that mix horror, humor and sharp social commentary.
