Shabake

In Edo, Ichitaro is the frail young heir of Nagasakiya, one of the biggest merchant houses in Nihonbashi. Too sickly to live like other boys, he spends most days inside, watched over by loyal attendants and the strange spirits that serve the family, including a hakutaku and an inugami. His body gives up easily, but his eyes miss nothing, and the yokai treat him like someone worth guarding. One night he slips out in secret and witnesses a murder. After that, Edo is hit by a string of unsettling killings, and panic turns every alley into a place people avoid. Ichitaro cannot forget what he saw, so he begins asking questions that adults would rather silence. Each clue drags him into debts, rivalries, and whispered deals, where humans blame monsters and monsters know too much about humans. With the yokai at his side, he traces motives and hidden grudges, trying to name the culprit before the next death lands close to home.
