Tian Quan once ended a brutal war by killing the Mirage Lord, but the victory left her soul fractured and her memories missing. Living among mortals as a low profile guardian of Cangshuo, she adopts an immortal black bird named Li Xiao, who soon takes human form and unsettles her with how closely he resembles her dead lover, Shao Weili. Li Xiao travels to treat strangers with an instinctive knowledge of herbs, then disappears for days. When Tian Quan reaches Luoyi Town to find him, the place has been wiped out and the Mirage Spirit has returned. Forced back into battle, Tian Quan and Li Xiao chase a trail of strange deaths and half remembered visions, trying to stop the Mirage before it spreads again and to learn what was stolen from her soul. As Tian Quan’s chaotic memories start to surface, every answer points back to Li Xiao, to Shao Weili, and to the enemy she swore she destroyed, as if someone tied their fates together on purpose.
