Murai in Love

Murai is a top student who tells his homeroom teacher, Ayano Tanaka, that his plan after graduation is to marry her. Tanaka rejects him at once. She has no interest in a student with long black hair and keeps her real obsession hidden from the class. Outside school, she spends her time on an otome game called Feudal Era Love Scroll and is devoted to Hitotose, her favorite character. Murai returns the next day with his hair cut and dyed blond, suddenly looking almost exactly like Hitotose. Tanaka tries to keep the boundary between teacher and student firm, but the resemblance shakes her routine and turns every school interaction into a test of self control. Murai keeps approaching her with direct affection, while Tanaka fights the image in her head and insists that her feelings belong only to the fictional man.

The situation grows harder as people around them enter the same orbit. Murai’s friends Kiriyama and Hirai watch his pursuit with a mix of support and confusion. Yuuka and Hitomi, childhood friends tied to cosplay and fan work, bring Tanaka’s private otaku life closer to the school world she tries to separate from it. Yayoi, who has loved Murai for years, adds pressure from another side because his devotion to Tanaka leaves no room for her feelings. Tanaka keeps trying to act like a responsible adult, but Murai’s sincerity and the strange link to Hitotose keep breaking through her defenses. The story follows a teacher who wants to hide behind rules and fantasy, and a student who refuses to let his confession disappear, until both have to face whether admiration, projection, and real affection can be separated cleanly.
