Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 - Sustainable War

In 2045, the world order rests not on peace but on carefully measured war. After the Simultaneous Global Default devalued money and shattered the old economy, the major powers turned armed conflict into a controlled mechanism of survival: combat zones flare up and die down on schedule, artificial intelligences help maintain this fragile balance, and mercenaries have become as much a part of the system as bankers and politicians. In this reality, Major Motoko Kusanagi, Batou and their former comrades from Section 9 no longer serve an official public security agency. They operate in North America as the unit GHOST, professionals who ask no unnecessary questions, with cybernetic bodies, combat experience and a knack for surviving where states prefer to leave no trace. But their latest operation, which begins as an ordinary contract job, quickly leads them to a phenomenon that fits neither military protocols nor the logic of the old world.
