Armitage III

In 2046 humanity has successfully colonized Mars, building an advanced urban society with the help of second-generation robots, the Seconds, who live among people as equals. However, an economic crisis has strained relations between humans and the Seconds, who are blamed for unemployment and other problems, and lynchings of robots have become more frequent. Amid this tension, detective Ross Sylibus is transferred to Mars. He has lived through a personal tragedy: his partner and lover was killed by a robot. Although he does not approve of cruelty toward the Seconds, he remains wary of them.

Upon arriving on Mars, Ross witnesses the brutal murder of a famous country singer who turns out to be a third-generation robot, practically indistinguishable from humans and capable of reproduction. All the Thirds are women, and they are being hunted by a serial killer who records his crimes on video and sends the footage to television. The case is assigned to Ross and his new partner, the attractive and brash Naomi Armitage, who immediately takes a liking to the taciturn Earthman. It soon becomes clear that Armitage has a personal stake in the investigation.
