365 Days to the Wedding

Takuya Ohara and Rika Honjoji are the kind of coworkers who can sit near each other every day and still feel like strangers. They both work at the same travel agency, they both keep to themselves, and their quiet routine only works because nobody asks them to stand out. Then the company announces a new branch assignment, and the selection target is simple and terrifying: single employees are the most convenient to move. Takuya and Rika do the math and realize they are exactly the kind of people who will get picked because they have no obvious attachments. Out of panic more than romance, they form a plan that sounds ridiculous but practical. They will pretend to be engaged, then act like a couple long enough for management to look elsewhere. Neither of them is good at lying in a flashy way, so they lie in small details, learning each other’s habits, inventing a relationship history, and practicing how to seem natural in front of coworkers who love gossip. The fake engagement starts as a shield, but it immediately drags them into real obligations, like meeting family, navigating questions they did not prepare for, and handling the kind of social pressure that does not accept «we’re private» as an answer. Takuya and Rika also have to face the uncomfortable truth that their partnership is the first time either of them has had to seriously consider what they want from another person. As the act grows bigger, they are forced to decide where the line is between performance and sincerity, and whether the safest lie might also be the one that changes their lives for real.
