Terminator Zero

Malcolm Lee works in 1997 Tokyo on Kokoro, an artificial intelligence he believes can oppose Skynet before Judgment Day begins. His work consumes him and leaves his children Kenta, Reika, and Hiro mostly in the care of Misaki, their housekeeper. In 2022, Eiko fights in a ruined future where machines have already driven humanity to the edge. After learning that Skynet’s next move is tied to Malcolm and Kokoro, she is sent back to 1997 to stop the launch or protect him long enough to change the outcome. A Terminator is sent to kill Malcolm, and its arrival turns the city into a hunting ground. Eiko reaches the Lee family, but the children are scattered, police interfere, and Misaki’s strange strength raises questions about what she really is.

Malcolm’s talks with Kokoro become as important as the chase outside. He tries to convince the new intelligence that humanity deserves protection, while Kokoro studies war, cruelty, survival, and the logic behind Skynet’s decision to destroy people. The Terminator adapts through disguises, stolen voices, and direct violence, using the children to reach Malcolm. Eiko discovers that time travel has created branching futures rather than one fixed line, and Malcolm is not only a scientist from the present. His connection to the future, Misaki’s origin, and Kokoro’s creation all come from choices made after the machine war had already begun. As Judgment Day arrives, Malcolm is forced to trust the very intelligence he built, Eiko fights to keep the children alive, and Kokoro decides whether to become another machine ruler or a separate force capable of opposing Skynet.
