A Hundred Scenes of Awajima

Wakana Tabata enters Awajima Opera School after chasing a dream built from watching the stage from far away. The school gathers girls from across Japan and places them in a strict world of dorm rooms, lessons, auditions, and constant comparison. Wakana moves in and meets Kinue Takahara, an older student who becomes her roommate and dorm supervisor. Kinue studies with the weight of a promise left by her friend Ryoko, while Wakana brings open admiration and little understanding of how hard the path will be. Early days show how the school runs. Students learn songs, steps, posture, timing, and manners, but they also learn who already has talent, who has backing, and who is being quietly left behind.

The story moves through different girls connected to Awajima rather than staying with one fixed lead. Some arrive because they love the stage. Some come because another student once inspired them. Some carry jealousy toward classmates who seem naturally gifted. Scholarship students face pressure from those who think they do not belong. Friendships form in practice rooms and dorm halls, then strain when auditions name winners and failures. Admiration can turn into rivalry, and rivalry can become the reason someone keeps training. Each student measures herself against the same impossible goal, a place on the grand stage after graduation. Awajima becomes a place where small scenes matter as much as performances: a shared room, a harsh comment, a missed role, a letter, a memory of someone who left. The girls keep moving through lessons and each other’s expectations, learning that the stage they want is built from talent, sacrifice, and the people they cannot stop watching.
