Vinland Saga

Thorfinn grows up in a small Icelandic village listening to Leif’s stories of a warm land across the sea. When his father Thors is forced back into battle and falls to an ambush led by the mercenary Askeladd, the boy stows away and swears to win a true duel. He survives by working in Askeladd’s band and earning chances at single combat while raids and campaigns carry them to England. Thorkell defects to fight the Danes and seizes Prince Canute, drawing the group into a winter march and a rescue. The timid prince changes after Ragnar’s death and claims command. Court games close in as King Sweyn weighs succession and Wales, and Askeladd chooses a fatal gambit that clears a path for Canute. Thorfinn reaches the hall too late, lashes out, and finds the revenge he lived for gone, leaving only the road ahead.
