Air in Summer

Unwilling to move to another shrine and leave her friends behind, Kanna slips out of the palace in the dead of night together with her loyal bodyguard Ryuuya and her confidant Uraha. They know their pursuers are not far behind, yet the three set out on a journey to find Kanna's mother, whom she has not seen for many years and longs to meet again.

On the road, the companions have to cover great distances, hide from their pursuers and search for safe routes through unfamiliar lands. Every new stop brings not only rest but also fresh trials. Gradually the travelers come to understand one another better, sharing their worries, fears and memories of the past. For Kanna, the journey becomes a chance to learn more about her own family and draw closer to the truth surrounding her separation from her mother.

Ryuuya does his best to protect the girl from the dangers that arise at every turn, while Uraha supports them with care and sensible advice. Amid the tension of their flight, the trio explore the world outside the confines of the palace, finding a tranquil yet temporary distraction from what is to come.
