Gintama: Dai Hanseikai

Gintama: Dai Hanseikai is a special animation produced for the Gintama Haru Matsuri 2010 live event, created to look back on four years of the Gintama anime. The title translates roughly as the Great Reflection Meeting.

Gintama is set in an alternate Edo-period Japan conquered by aliens, where the lazy, sweet-toothed samurai Gintoki Sakata runs the Yorozuya, an odd-jobs business, together with the straight-laced Shinpachi Shimura and the super-strong alien girl Kagura. The series is famous for its fourth-wall-breaking humor, parodies and its habit of having characters openly discuss the show itself.

True to that spirit, in this special some of the characters get together to talk about the regrets they have after four years of the anime. The supposedly thoughtful discussion quickly degenerates, as they soon start fighting over who gets more screen time. Packed with meta jokes, self-mockery and the cast's usual squabbling, this short is a celebration of the series made especially for the fans who attended the event.
