Food for the Soul

Mako Kawai starts university and lives alone for the first time, so she clings to what feels safe: cooking in her tiny kitchen and keeping to herself. She is shy to the point that even eating out alone feels impossible. Then Shinon Ogawa, a loud childhood friend she did not expect to see again, corners her on campus with Tsutsuji Higa and Kurea Furutachi. They are building a new Food Culture Research Club and want Mako as their core cook. Mako panics and turns them down, then spends days regretting it. A chance meeting at a small eatery run by Kurea’s family nudges her forward, and one honest meal breaks the wall she keeps up. Joining the club does not magically fix her, but it gives her a reason to try new places, cook for real people, and let small routines turn into friendship, one shared dish at a time.
