Macross Zero

In 1999, before the arrival of the Zentradi, an alien spaceship crashed on Earth, and the supertechnology discovered aboard it sparked a war between the U.N. and the Anti-U.N. that lasted eight years. The war claimed the lives of experienced pilots, and ever younger recruits took their places. Shin Kudo, a young F-14 Tomcat pilot of the U.N. forces, is shot down by the enemy and crashes on the tropical island of Mayan, where he is rescued and nursed back to health by the locals.

The island and its people turn out to be connected to the Protoculture, which may have been brought to Earth from space in the distant past. The energy phenomena observed on the island resemble the very supertechnology that ignited the war, and soon the island's tranquility is shattered by a battle involving the U.N.'s newest fighter, the VF-0. Finding himself at the center of these mysterious events, Shin begins to realize that his fate is closely intertwined with ancient secrets and the present-day conflict.
