The Elusive Samurai

Hojo Tokiyuki lives as the young heir of the Kamakura shogunate, but he avoids lessons, duties, and military practice whenever he can. His only clear talent is escape. He can slip from guards, dodge pursuit, and turn fear into movement faster than anyone around him. That careless life ends when Ashikaga Takauji betrays Kamakura and the Hojo clan is destroyed. Tokiyuki sees his home fall, loses family and retainers, and becomes a child hunted by the new order. Suwa Yorishige, a priest who claims to see the future, rescues him and brings him to Shinano.
