Issei Hyoudou dies on his first date when the girl reveals herself as the fallen angel Raynare. Rias Gremory revives him as a devil and brings him into the Occult Research Club at Kuoh Academy. Issei discovers his Sacred Gear is the Boosted Gear, a red gauntlet that houses Ddraig and multiplies his power in bursts. Asia Argento, a nun with the healing Gear Twilight Healing, is killed when Raynare steals it, then revived by Rias and becomes part of the club. The fight shifts to the Underworld when Rias is forced into an arranged engagement with Riser Phenex and must face his team in a formal Rating Game. Rias resigns to save her people. Issei refuses to accept the result, crashes the engagement party, and beats Riser with a risky plan that uses holy items and his Gear, which cancels the marriage. The season ends with Rias choosing Issei and moving into his home.
